چکیده

We consider a simplified model of methane hydrates which we cast as a nonlinear evolution problem. For its well-posedness we extend the existing theory to cover the case in which the problem involves a measurable family of graphs. We represent the nonlinearity as a subgradient and prove a useful comparison principle, thus optimal regularity results follow. For the numerical solution we apply a fully implicit scheme without regularization and use semismooth Newton algorithm for a solver, and the graph is realized as a complementarity constraint (CC). The algorithm is very robust and we extend it to define an easy and superlinearly convergent fully implicit scheme for Stefan problem and other multivalued examples.

A Fugacity Approach for Prediction of Phase Equilibria of Methane Clathrate Hydrate in Structure H

In this communication, a thermodynamic model is presented to predict the dissociation conditions of structure H (sH) clathrate hydrates with methane as help gas. This approach is an extension of the Klauda and Sandler fugacity model (2000) for prediction of phase boundaries of sI and sII clathrate hydrates. The phase behavior of the water and hydrocarbon system is modeled using the Peng-Robinso...

Prediction of Structural Changes in Gas Hydrate for Methane and Ethane Mixture by Using Tangent Plane Distance Minimization

Abstract:  In this study, the change in the crystalline structure of gas hydrate was predicted for ternary mixture of methane-ethane-water. For this purpose, the tangent plane distance (TPD) minimization method was used. First, the calculations were performed for the binary mixtures of methane-water and ethane-water as the gas and liquid phases. The results show that for a binary mixture of th...

Experimental Measurement of Methane and Ethane Mole Fractions during Gas Hydrate Formation

The super-saturation condition has to be provided to form gas hydrates. Consequently, the prediction of the guest molecule fraction in the aqueous phase is crucial in the study of the gas hydrate kinetics. In the present work, several experiments were carried out in a semi-batch reactor in order to determine the mole fraction of methane and ethane during gas hydrates formation (growth stage...

Methane Flux and Authigenic Carbonate in Shallow Sediments Overlying Methane Hydrate Bearing Strata in Alaminos Canyon, Gulf of Mexico

In June 2007 sediment cores were collected in Alaminos Canyon, Gulf of Mexico across a series of seismic data profiles indicating rapid transitions between the presence of methane hydrates and vertical gas flux. Vertical profiles of dissolved sulfate, chloride, calcium, magnesium, and dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) concentrations in porewaters, headspace methane, and solid phase carbonate con...

Pathways through Equilibrated States with Coexisting Phases for Gas Hydrate Formation.

Under ambient conditions, water freezes to either hexagonal ice or a hexagonal/cubic composite ice. The presence of hydrophobic guest molecules introduces a competing pathway: gas hydrate formation, with the guests in clathrate cages. Here, the pathways of the phase transitions are sought as sequences of states with coexisting phases, using a generalized replica exchange algorithm designed to s...
